When configuring IP Site Connect system, first it’s better to make sure that MOTOTRBO system works properly (with no 3rd party application).
So in this chapter it is shown how to configure MOTOTRBO system for IP Site Connect radio network.
The main components which require configuration are:
- MOTOTRBO Repeaters (please read about repeater configuration in the chapter 1.6. IP Site Connect codeplug configuration. Repeaters.)
- MOTOTRBO Subscriber Radios
MOTOTRBO Subscriber Radio Settings
This article does not contain information about scanning or other additional features. Here you will find information how to configure subscriber radios to work with already configured repeaters in IP Site Connect system and simple configuration of roaming.
1. In the General Settings tab set the Radio ID (according to our idea of radio numeration). This ID number must be unique for each radio in the communication system (e.g. ID=1001).
Select GPS, if you need to track the subscriber location (only for radios with GPS support DP/DM 3401, 3601, 4401, 4601, DP 4801, SL4010).
Select Private Calls, if radio subscriber needs to transmit Private Calls. If Private Calls is unselected, radio subscriber won’t be able to initiate a Private Call, but the user can continue to receive and respond to Private Calls, and is still able to initiate Call Alerts.
2. Open Network tab to configure necessary settings:
In the Network tab set Forward to PC to Disabled. If you’re planning to work with SmartPTT application specify ARS Radio ID. TMS Radio ID should be empty until MNAI protocol is used.
If IP Site Connect system works with no SmartPTT software, then clear ARS Radio ID field.
Note! If there are some value in ARS Monitoring ID field, then radio sends some information to the supposed server (even if there are no any) and it can cause unwanted traffic.
If SmartPTT application is used, then ARS Radio ID is always equal to ID of Slot1 and Slot 2 specified in SmartPTT Radioserver. But other field should be empty to prevent undesired data and traffic.
3. Then in Contact tab in Digital folder add necessary Group and Private Contacts, All Call by right-clicking on the Digital folder.
4. Then create RX Group List in appropriate tab. Right click on Digital folder under RX Group Lists tab and select Add-> RX Group List
5. Expand Channels tab and all necessary channels. To add channel right-click on Zone, then select Add->Digital Channel
If radio needs to roam from one site (Master) to another (peer), then add all channels which will be used by this radio. In our case we added 4 channels: Master_Slot1, Master_Slot2, Peer_Slot1, and Peer_Slot2 (as subscriber radio is going to be used on both slots and also it will roam from one site to another).
5.1. Before channel configuration, let’s create Roam lists, if needed. If subscriber radio doesn’t need to be roamed, please skip this step. Right-click on Roam and select Add->Roam List
In Roam list select channels from Available channels which will be roamed until a channel is found that satisfies the RSSI Threshold during the roam operation. All selected channels are in Members list.
Make sure that for slot 1 and slot 2 different Roam Lists are created.
In our case List1 contains channels Master_Slot1 and Peer_Slot1. List2 contains channels Master_Slot2 and Peer_Slot2.
When Roam lists are created, go back to Channel Settings.
For each channel select appropriate Roam List if needed. If Roam List is selected, Radio Subscriber will be able to roam between sites in IP Site Connect System. If disabled, the radio won’t be able to roam to another repeater in IP Site Connect system when moving from one site to another.
If Roam List 1 is selected, the subscriber radio can roam to the sites listed in the Roam List 1.
Color Сode should be equal to Color Code specified for repeaters. In our case Color Сode = 1.
Both the assigned frequency and the assigned Time slot should be specified in order to completely describe a digital repeater channel. Radios or Groups that need to talk together must be assigned to the same frequency and time slot. So for channel Master_Slot1 select Time Slot=1.
ARS–On System/Site Change (if 3rd party application as SmartPTT is used). ARS feature provides an automated registration for the radio. When the radio powers up, the radio automatically registers with the server. This feature is also used for Text Messaging or Location Services.
Assign the selected channel as an IP Site Connect enabled by checking IP Site Connect feature.
Set required RX and TX frequencies for this channel.
Group List associates RX Group list to the channel for reception. The user can listen to any Group in this list when there is any activity on it and talk back within the Group Call hang time. Selecting the None option disables the user from receiving any Group Calls on this channel, except when the Call ID is the same as the Call ID of the transmit member (if group call is initiated by this particular radio).
Select Contact Name which defines the call that may be initiated on the channel by pressing the PTT button when there are no active calls on the channel.
The Call ID from the Contact Name is automatically added to the RX Group List on this channel by default. This allows the user to receive this call, even though Group List is set to None or the group is not selected in RX Group List.
In our example the radio can make group calls to Group1 and Group 2.
Set Admit Criteria = Channel Free.
Admit Criteria determines when voice or data is allowed to be transmitted on the channel. This is used to prevent a radio from transmitting on channels that are already being used. If the radio has different transmit and receive frequencies, only the receive frequency is monitored for activity. If no activity is found on the receive frequency, the radio allows the user to transmit on the transmit frequency even if it is being used.
If Admit Criteria is set as Channel Free, then the radio will check for an idle channel prior to allowing a transmission. This option is also referred to as "Polite to All" channel access.
Set In Call Criteria = Follow Admit Criteria.
In Call Criteria determines when voice is allowed to be transmitted on the channel while in a call. This criterion is used to allow or prevent a radio from transmitting on the channel while it is currently in a call and unmuted.
If In Call Criteria is set as Follow Admit Criteria, then the radio will follow polite Admit Criteria rules while in a call.
Select Private Call Confirmed and unselect Data Call Confirmed.
Configure the second digital channel likewise, but set Roam List 2 (if needed) and Repeater Slot = 2.
Configure peer channel (Slot 1 and Slot 2) the same way, but pay attention on Roam List (if needed), Repeater/Time Slot and RX and TX Frequencies.
Click Write to apply the changes in the settings next to the Read button in the tool bar.
Repeaters and Radios are ready to operate in IP Site Connect mode.
