General information about CSBK
The following is a list of system components affected by the CSBK data feature:
- MOTOTRBO Repeater
- MOTOTRBO Radio (supported with firmware version R2.3 and later versions)
- MOTOTRBO CPS Programming Software
- MNIS - MOTOTRBO Network Interface Services Software
- SmartPTT Radioserver
When the CSBK data feature is enabled, the GPS and ARS data are compressed into a single CSBK data.
Window size 1 is only supported by MNIS mode because the window announcement gets transmitted through the repeater’s outbound air interface, while window size 2 is supported by both the control station and MNIS mode.
For multisite IPSC, Capacity Plus, or Linked Capacity Plus systems, the window size must be 1 or 2 with the CSBK data feature enabled, or 8, or bigger. Otherwise, the GPS data may not be transmitted or received properly.
GPS Transmission Modes
GPS Transmission Mode is configured in Radioserver application:
GPS Transmission Mode allows you to select the way how to transmit location updates:
A) GPS Transmission mode: Data - as a data packet in multiple bursts,
To configure regular GPS updates and Enhanced GPS updates over data revert with no CSBK data, on subscribers and repeaters you need to configure the regular GPS over voice channel or Enhanced GPS over data revert channel.
In Radioserver Configurator, GPS Transmission Mode should be selected as Data.
No additional changes are required for MNIS.
B) GPS Transmission mode: CSBK and Enhanced CSBK - as a single CSBK (Control Signaling Block)
There are two ways of transmitting CSBK:
1. CSBK data
Note! CSBK Data is used in the radio systems with no data revert channels.
Where should the changes be made to enable CSBK?
- To enable CSBK in radio systems with SmartPTT, it is required to enable CSBK data on subscribers.
- In MNIS application, each site needs to be configured with site GPS coordinates.
- In Radioserver Configurator, GPS Transmission Mode should be selected as CSBK.
2. Enhanced CSBK
Note! Enhanced CSBK GPS updates can be used only over data revert channel!
Where should the changes be made to enable Enhanced CSBK?
- To enable Enhanced CSBK in radio systems with SmartPTT, it is required to configure the Enhanced GPS with data revert channels on subscribers and repeaters,. Window size should be selected as 2 (Please note that some regions may need to purchase a license for Enhanced GPS feature from MOTOROLA).
- In MNIS application, each site needs to be configured with site GPS coordinates.
- In Radioserver Configurator, GPS Transmission Mode should be selected as Enhanced CSBK.
How to configure SmartPTT Radioserver, MNIS, subscriber radio and repeater for CSBK and Enhanced CSBK
Step 1.
Radioserver configuration for CSBK and Enhanced CSBK
Select the GPS Transmission Mode in SmartPTT Radioserver Configurator as CSBK or Enhanced CSBK, depending on whether there are data revert channels or not (refer to the information provided above).
Step 2.
MNIS Configuration for CSBK and Enhanced CSBK
To transmit location data using CSBK and Enhanced CSBK, configure additional MNIS settings, which include repeater latitude and longitude in 4 digits for each site. This information is used for calculation of radio locations. The distance between the subscriber radio and the repeater (refer to the repeater receiving the inbound GPS data over the air) can’t exceed 130 miles.
MNIS Configuration for NAI IP Site Connect
For IP Site Connect configuration specify Peer ID and its latitude and longitude for each repeater in the radio system.
In case you use Enhanced CSBK channel, activate Revert Channel for the Data Revert Slot (same as in repeater codeplug):
MNIS Configuration for NAI Capacity Plus
When using NAI Capacity Plus configuration, specify latitude and longitude of the site:
MNIS Configuration for NAI Linked Capacity Plus
When using NAI Linked Capacity Plus configuration, specify latitude and longitude for each site:
Step 3.
Radio codeplug configuration for CSBK and Enhanced CSBK:
(1) To transmit location data using CSBK or Enhanced CSBK, enable CSBK Data in radio settings:
(2) only in case of Enhanced CSBK channels (only if Data Revert Slot with Enhanced GPS is configured in repeater)
Additionally, for Enhanced CSBK, configure Enhanced GPS settings radio codeplugs and set Window Size = 2 on the Data Revert slot.
Step 4.
(only in case of Enhanced CSBK)
Repeater codeplug configuration
No changes are required for the repeater in the case of CSBK configuration.
To activate Enhanced GPS on the repeater, select Enhanced GNSS > selected slot and set Window Size = 2 for Data Revert Slot/Channel.
Note: Remember that Enhanced CSBK can be used on Enhanced GPS channels only.
The following Window Size and corresponding Update Rates can be used.
NOTE! 7.5 and 15s update rates are supported only when the window size = 1 or 2
NOTE! To set a 7,5 sec GPS request in SmartPTT Dispatcher, please use 7 or 8 seconds update interval for GPS requests. These values will be considered as a 7,5 sec update period.
Here is some additional information about the maximum possible updates per minute per channel in case of different update periods and window sizes:
